If interested in hearing specifics about my work at Hasbro/Nerf, let’s talk in private

Hasbro HQ in Pawtucket, RI

At Hasbro, I was hired as an intern within the NERF design team.

For the Fall season of 2024, I worked closely with every designer and every sector of the NERF design studio.

While I was working in Nerf I was responsible for MANY projects of different types at different stages of the design process; however, most of it was in the conceptualization / ideation phase.

Summary of Workload

During my time at Hasbro I was not assigned to a particular workload or design assignment. While I did have a manager to report to, due to a massive layoff / restructuring, for the most part I was solely responsible for maintaining a schedule and workload in conjunction with the team.

What this meant for me was having to make the effort myself to meet with every designer and engineer on our team to find projects to assist on. While this was often times difficult and strenuous, it drove me to learn more and diversify the skills I was learning.

While I cannot divulge specific projects, the following summarizes the general tasks that I accomplished:

  • Rough ideation conceptualization for a new line of blasters / toy guns

  • Brainstorming ideation for new products / accessories within a tech-forward family of products

  • Wearable concept sketches for a “Mature” product line

  • Research / Analysis of live user testing and customer-testimonials

  • Design-Engineering, CAD, and prototyping of blaster accessory concepts

  • Wearable concept renders exploring potential tech applications across brands

  • Context storyboards utilizing AI generations for pitches and corporate presentations

  • Ideation and conceptualization which led to accessories being chosen as future line-items

  • Ideation, refinement, sketch-rendering, and engineer-communication resulting in a Super Soaker design reaching market

The Team

I worked closest with two designers, the “Mature” line designer and the Super Soaker designer, whom I worked closely with on my Super Soaker design which lead to market.

With Jae, I helped come up with concepts for some accessories which I modelled and prototyped the effectiveness of.

Having worked with all of these designers within their sectors, I gained a great amount of experience and knowledge with different types of products and how different designers operate in their fields.

As a result of my time here, I was grateful enough to work on concepts of my own design that have reached market and are slated to be on shelves within 2-3 years

Within Nerf, there were less than 10 full-time designers, each of which was responsible for their own product sector.
